Well done to our U11 Community Games hurling team on a terrific win over SBK/Coolderry in their semi final this evening in Coolderry on a score of 2-11 to 1-05.
The lads found themselves down 1-04 to 1-01 at the end of the first quarter, our goal and point coming courtesy of Conor Gleeson, after a strong start from the home side. Important points from Michael Culleton and Tommy Brazil (2) helped the lads find their footing in an end to end contest, where we went into the break a point down, 1-05 to 1-04.
Na Fianna played their best hurling in the third quarter scoring points from the sticks of Patrick Flynn (2) and Tommy Brazil (4) following resolute defending and hard work from our backs and midfield to lead 1-10 to 1-05 heading into the final quarter. A goal from Tommy Brazil from play and a point from the same player following a foul on Cathal Meacle was enough to see the black and red lads over the line as the home side piled on the pressure.
This was a great game of hurling in which SBK/Coolderry pushed Na Fianna to the pin of their collars with many fine hurlers in their ranks. Thanks to SBK/Coolderry for their hospitality, in particular the party bags for all the players after the game, and a fine sporting game.
It was also lovely to see such support for the lads on the sideline especially having regard to the distance of the drive on such a warm evening. Every Na Fianna player gave it their all this evening from 1-16 and I’m sure all the parents are as proud as the coaches are of the performance these lads put in for their parish this evening.
